Money, tax and insurance decisions can affect your income and your health, so we hold every guide to the same standards. This page explains how a guide is made and kept up to date.

What we cover

We write about money that crosses borders: getting paid by international clients, multi-currency accounts and cards, international transfers and exchange rates, the basics of tax residency, international health and travel insurance, running a freelance business with clients abroad, and saving and investing when you live outside your home country.

We do not cover speculative trading, cryptocurrency trading or get-rich-quick schemes.

How a guide is researched

  1. We start from the question a reader actually has, such as “how do I receive US dollars without a US bank account?”, not from a keyword.
  2. We read the primary sources: the provider’s own fee pages, terms and help centre; regulators and deposit or investor protection schemes; tax authorities; and international bodies such as the OECD, the European Commission and central banks.
  3. We cross-check figures. Fees, limits and prices are checked against the provider’s page on the date of review. When a figure is an estimate or comes from a third-party review, we say so in the text.
  4. We explain the trade-offs, including what can go wrong, rather than only listing features.

The main sources for each guide are listed at the end of the article under “Sources and further reading”.

Use of AI tools

We use AI tools to help with research and first drafts. No guide is published without a person editing it, checking the facts and figures against the sources and deciding what to keep. We do not publish automatically generated pages.

Reviews and updates

  • Every article shows its publication date and its last review date.
  • We review guides on a regular schedule and whenever we learn that a fee, product or rule has changed.
  • We only change the review date when we have actually checked the content, not for cosmetic edits.

Some articles contain affiliate links. Commercial relationships never decide which products we mention, how we rank them or what we say about their downsides. We name the limitations of products we link to. Advertising is shown by Google AdSense, and we do not choose individual ads. See our affiliate disclosure.

Not personal advice

Our guides are general information. They do not take into account your nationality, residency, income or health. For tax, legal, investment and insurance decisions, confirm with a qualified professional in the relevant country. See our financial disclaimer.

Corrections

If you find an error, contact us with the page and the detail. We check every report, correct confirmed errors as soon as possible and update the review date.
